Desktop Client Management

Configure default desktop client settings for all users from the Desktop Client management page in Account Settings (labelled Desktop Settings).

Centralized Configuration

Administrators can set:

  • Enable automatic update (see the note below)
  • Upload acceleration — chunk size, number of streams, and number of retries
  • Outlook transfer method — how the Outlook plugin sends (for example, attachments only)
  • Use proxy — whether the client routes through a proxy

Automatic update on the classic client

The classic Windows Desktop Client does not currently auto-update; its update server has been retired. Even with this toggle on, users get new versions by reinstalling the latest client from their account's Start page. See the Desktop & Outlook guide.

Deployment

For enterprise deployments:

  • Download the desktop client installer
  • Deploy via your software management tools
  • Distribute to Windows workstations

No Group Policy template

There is no Group Policy (ADMX) template for the client, and the client rewrites its own machine-level registry settings on startup, so pre-seeding configuration through the registry does not persist. Set client defaults from the Desktop Settings page above instead.
